JAKARTA - Alexander Albon joked that the red dye in his hair helped him score points for Williams for the second time in his last three races.

The British-born Thai rider emerged with a new look on his crown last month at the Australian Grand Prix and stole a point after finishing P10.

At the Emilia Romagna GP at Imola, with his hair dye starting to fade, the 26-year-old racer finished P11.

Then when appearing in his Miami GP debut, Albon appeared fresher and dyed his hair red again, having raced from P18 to finishing P9.

"There's no need to upgrade, you just need to dye your hair. That's what it takes," Albon told Sky Sports TV as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday.

The former Red Bull driver explained his plans for Friday's training session.

"We painted it before Melbourne and finished tenth and then when the color faded we finished 11th at Imola. So that started to affect the performance," he said. "So we repainted it, hoping for more points."

Sweat while racing in the Miami heat also has a dramatic effect.

"My Balaclava got faded red, bright red. The paint was all over the place. I looked like I was beheaded," says Albon.

"We said that if I score points this weekend the whole team will dye their hair red. I went into the engineering room and they all started retracting their comments with 'ah no, the podium'."

Albon said both he and Williams, still in last place and three points behind ninth-placed Aston Martin, were climbing slowly.

"I feel I'm doing a better job than a few years ago," said the driver, who missed the 2021 season after losing his Red Bull bench to Sergio Perez.

"I have one year to choose the place where I want to work and grow up.

"We are recovering and so am I. I feel I am better every race, I am more experienced than before and I feel very good."
