JAKARTA - The search for a new Chelsea owner is finally over. The Premier League club is officially owned by a consortium consisting of American businessman Todd Boehly, Mark Walter, Clearlake Capital and Swiss businessman Hansjoerg Wyss.
This change of ownership was announced by Chelsea through their official website, Saturday 7 May. In an official statement, Chelsea said the new Chelsea owner consortium was led by Todd.
The group has been allowed by the British government to become the new owners of Chelsea, after they froze Abramovich's assets as sanctions for Russia's military aggression against Ukraine since late February.
Chelsea's official website says £2.5 billion (approximately Rp44.7 trillion) of the total investment of the new owner group will be allocated to buy 100 per cent of the club's shares.
The profits will be transferred to Abramovich's frozen British bank account and all of it will be donated to a charity of choice for the Russian tycoon.
Chelsea's new owner, led by Boehly, has also committed an additional £1.75 billion to cover the club's development needs.
The funds will, among other things, be allocated for the construction of Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium, the club's academy, the women's team and its home ground at Kingsmeadow, and funding for the Chelsea Charitable Foundation.
The ownership transfer process is expected to be fully completed by the end of May with the need to meet regulatory approvals.
Since Abramovich took ownership in 2003, Chelsea have had their most successful season with five Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, two Europa League trophies, five FA Cups, three EFL Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, one UEFA Cup. Club World, and twice won the Community Shield.
