Thomas-Uber Team Fly To Thailand In The Middle Of Eid

JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team for the Thomas and Uber Cup championships officially departed for Manila in the midst of the Eid atmosphere. They were given the task of defending the Thomas Cup trophy as well as trying to grab Uber.

The group of 20 people departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday, May 3. They are led by team manager Hendro Santoso.

"I see all the players are excited to leave. This condition is certainly very positive for the Thomas-Uber championship later", Hendro said in an official statement received by VOI.

This group flew using Philippine Airlines PR536 to Manila first. There they made a transit for approximately three hours and 3 hours before continuing their journey to Bangkok.

The Jakarta-Manila route was chosen so that a large group of Indonesian teams could go together to Bangkok. Later in Manila, players who previously competed in the Asian Championships last week will also be joined.

"So, later the team from Jakarta will join the players who appear in the Asian Championship. That way, the Thomas and Uber Indonesia teams will come to Thailand together in one big group", said Hendro.

The names of the players who departed from Jakarta were mostly members of the Uber Cup team. They are Aisya Sativa Fatetani, Bilqis Prasista, Siti Sarah Azzahra, Nita Violina Marwah, Tryola Nadia, Jesita Putri Miantoro, and Lanny Tria Mayasari.

There were only two members of Thomas's team in this group. The two athletes are Syabda Perkasa Belawa and Tegar Sulistio.

Other members of the Thomas team that appeared in the Asian Championships were Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Hendra Setiawan, Mohammad Ahsan, Fajar Alfian, M. Rian Ardianto, Bagas Maulana, to M. Shohibul Fikri.
