JAKARTA - Indonesian athletes who are undergoing preparations for the 2021 SEA Games are asked not to go home during Eid. This is to maintain the condition and health of the athletes ahead of their departure to Vietnam.

Chief chef de mission (CdM) Indonesia, Ferry J Kono, said that his party issued an appeal for athletes not to go home for Eid because they really care about the conditions of those who will participate in the 2021 SEA Games.

"This is an unusual SEA Games because Eid Al-Fitr is close to the contingent's implementation and departure to Vietnam. As CDM, I urge athletes not to go home and keep the health program," said Ferry, as reported by Antara, Saturday, April 30.

Ferry admitted that he was afraid that the athlete's condition would drop due to going home. The reason is, going home this year is more crowded than usual.

"I'm afraid that if going home will be stuck in traffic, it will affect the fitness condition of the athletes. So sorry, the athletes should not go home for Lebaran for this year. Just focus on the Vietnam SEA Games," he continued.

Not only athletes, all Indonesian CdM teams also have to give up the Lebaran holiday period to not go home.

"Planning is the key. That's why we made planning from the athlete's departure, while in Vietnam and returning very carefully," he said.

The Indonesian team for the Vietnam SEA Games has a strength of 499 athletes who will participate in 32 of the 40 sports being competed.
