JAKARTA - The U-19 national team will appear in the 2022 Toulon Tournament in France in May. However, in that tournament, Garuda Muda will not be accompanied by its head coach, Shin Tae-Yong.

The South Korean tactician is certain to be absent because he will focus on assisting the senior team who will undergo the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification in June.

Regarding who will accompany the U-19s in the Toulon Tournament later, PSSI has determined his successor. The federation said the Milky Way had been appointed to fill Shin Tae-Yong's vacant position.

"Yesterday we have decided that the coach of the U-16 Bima Sakti national team and friends plus a coach sent by coach Shin Tae-Yong, one person will handle the U-19 national team for the Toulon Tournament event," said PSSI Technical Director, Indra Sjafri in a statement. in writing accepted by VOI.

Indra Sjafri also said that Shin Tae-Yong's absence could not be separated from the recent situation, where many agendas were shifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the federation admitted that it was difficult to divide the time.

"Indeed, we find it difficult to divide the time because there are events whose calendars can actually be regular, but because there is a pandemic, there are calendars that are postponed and the implementation ends up clashing," he added.

The 2022 Toulon Tournament will take place in France from 19 May to 12 June. As preparation for the tournament, the U-19 Indonesian national team will depart on May 26, 2022.

The Toulon 2022 tournament will be participated by 12 teams from various countries who are allowed to send teams from the age category of 17 to 23 years.

The twelve teams were divided into three groups, with the Indonesia U-19 national team in Group B with Ghana, Mexico, and Venezuela.

While the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification will take place in Kuwait on 8-14 June. The Indonesian national team is in Group A with the hosts Kuwait, Jordan and Nepal.
