JAKARTA - Jonatan Christie lost badly in the top party of the Korea Open 2022 after being beaten by Chinese badminton player Weng Hong Yang, in the final through the rubber game 21-12, 19-21, 15-21 in Suncheon, Sunday.

The third seeded badminton player actually had the opportunity to win the title in two straight games, but due to an immeasurable and impatient strategy, he had to settle for being runner up after struggling for 77 minutes.

In the first game, Jonathan immediately stepped on the gas and put pressure on his opponent who was perched at number 156 in the world. In the opening game, Jonathan practically created the lead with ease.

The new exciting competition occurred in the second game, when Weng, who was originally playing calmer, became more aggressive and was able to break a number of smashes from Jonathan.

Jonathan also had an 18-15 lead over Weng, but his lead only lasted until 19-16 before a surprise hit when the badminton player from China took the lead by stealing five points in a row.

This point loss occurred due to Jonathan being impatient and too hasty to kill the opponent so that he made a mistake in Weng's favor.

Entering the decisive game, Jonathan started with a 2-0 advantage but Weng appeared more confident after stealing the lead in the second game. Jonathan was actually overwhelmed and often died alone.

The wider point difference made it difficult for Jonathan to catch up. Another opportunity occurred in the final half when Jonathan made five consecutive points from 10-16 to 15-16.

Seeing this situation, Weng played more patiently and made Jonathan Christie not move. The end result was that the Indonesian representative had to settle for runner-up with a final score of 15-21, according to the BWF report on its official website.
