JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team will appear at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam. In the inaugural match for soccer, Indonesia will meet the host on May 6.

The Indonesian U-23 national team meeting with Vietnam will take place before the official opening of the Southeast Asian elite sporting event. Because the opening ceremony itself was officially held on May 12.

At the SEA Games Vietnam 2021, the U-23 Indonesian national team is in Group A along with Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Timor Leste.

Facing Vietnam in the first match is certainly not easy. Especially if you look at Vietnam, which in the last five years has a FIFA ranking above Indonesia.

After the inaugural match against Vietnam, Garuda Muda troops will again undergo an exciting match against Timor Leste on May 10. The meeting could be a good moment for the national team because if you look at the history of the SEA Games, the Indonesian U-23 national team has only met Timor Leste twice and has never lost.

The third match continues on May 13, where the Indonesian U-23 national team will face the Philippines. This match is also a crucial meeting because usually in the third party, it can already be seen the status of qualifying for the group.

Finally, the Indonesian U-23 national team will meet Myanmar. If referring to previous meetings, Indonesia was dominant in winning, but the matches often took place with heated tensions.
