The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) can only be used as a training ground for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali confirmed that the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) will not be included in the list of venues for the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The Minister of Youth and Sports is based on the approval of the World Football Federation (FIFA).

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, the stadium in Jakarta that has been approved by FIFA to be the venue for the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia later is the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK). Meanwhile for JIS, there is still a possibility to become a training field.

"Perhaps the stadium (JIS) can be used as a training field because in every main arena a companion field must be prepared, but the main venue is not listed," said the Minister of Youth and Sports to reporters, while attending the inaugural practice of the Indonesian U-19 national team at the Madya Stadium, Senayan on Thursday. JIS is predicted to be a magnificent stadium that will rival GBK. Apart from having more modern features, the audience capacity at JIS will also be more than GBK.

"I don't think there has been any change, it's still like what has been approved by FIFA. We can't change that," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Unfortunately, when registering the venue for the U-20 World Cup, JIS was not on the list. The reason is, the soccer arena, which is located in Papanggo, North Jakarta, is still under construction.

So far, FIFA has designated six stadiums in Indonesia to be the venue for the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The six stadiums include the Sriwijaya Stadium (Palembang, South Sumatra), Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung, South Sumatra). West Java).

Then there is Manahan Stadium (Solo, Central Java), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya, East Java) and Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Gianyar, Bali).

As per FIFA's request, each designated match stadium must have five practice fields used for teams and match equipment.

The government, said Zainudin Amali, will ensure all stadiums and supporting fields are in good condition when the 2023 U-20 World Cup starts later. For this reason, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will carry out an examination related to current conditions in early 2023.

"Currently, all places have been renovated, both major and minor. In this one year, the field will be used by the regional government. Next year it will be taken over by the central government to prepare for the 2023 U-20 World Cup," concluded the Minister of Youth and Sports.
