JAKARTA - Robin Frinjs and Rene Rast will team up for Indonesian racer Sean Gelael in the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMP2 with Team WTR. Frinjs and Rast are not new names in the car world. In particular, Frinjs, who is currently 30 years old, is the driver who led WRT to win LMP2 last season with Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi.

Meanwhile, Rast is a German racer who won the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) three times, each in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Meanwhile, Sean Gelael also welcomed the presence of two experienced racers who will become a tandem in the 2022 season.

"First of all, of course, I am very happy, enthusiastic, and challenged at the same time. Because it means every year since 2016 in F2 and now WEC, I have never had the same teammate. From 2016 to 2020 in Formula 2, Sean partnered with Mitch Evans (New Zealand), Norman Nato (France), Nyck de Vries (Netherlands), Mick Schumacher (Germany), and Dan Ticktum (England). While last year he was accompanied by Tom Blomqvist (England) and Stoffel Vandoorne (Belgium) in the JOTA team when he was runner-up in the FIA WEC LMP2 class.

On the other hand, Frinjs is also determined to be able to repeat last year's success. "I'm happy to be racing for Team WRT, which I consider like family. Last year we had a great success and we want to do it again this season. Can't wait to do it soon," said Frinjs.

At the same time Team WRT also introduced the line-up for another car, the #41. Rui Andrade, who was announced earlier, will partner Ferdinand Habsburg and his former 2017 F2 teammate, Norman Nato. They will defend a team called Realtime by WRT.

WRT boss, Vincent Vosse, admitted that he is optimistic about the presence of a row of racers who have big names. "Happy, for sure. But of course, defending the title is not easy. We are grateful to have a row of racers with great CVs, who can anticipate the challenges faced along with the increasing quality of competition," he said.

The WEC 2022 series will begin with the Prologue session at the Sebring International Raceway, United States, on March 12-13. The series opener will also be held at Sebring on March 18. After that, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on May 7.

Sean Gelael's journey will continue in France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 11-12 June. One month later or to be precise on July 10, he flew to Italy for the 6 Hours of Monza and continued 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan on September 11. Finally, Sean will pave the way at the 8 Hours of Bahrain on November 12.
