Ancelotti Says After Madrid Detained To Draw Elche: It Feels Like Losing

JAKARTA - Real Madrid had to fight extra for a 2-2 draw against Elche in week 22 of the 2021/2022 Spanish League. In the match which was held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Sunday, January 23, Los Blancos needed a penalty and defender Eder Militao's late goal to avoid defeat.

After the game, coach Carlo Ancelotti could not cover his disappointment. He admitted that Madrid did not play optimally so for him the result in this match felt the same as defeat.

"It felt like we lost, our first half was a bit chaotic. We missed the penalty and there were a lot of wasted chances", Ancelotti told Realmadrid.com.

"We should have scored if we had been more effective. We then conceded the first goal and the second goal", continued the coach.

The match against Elche was indeed very tough for Los Blancos. The reason, Karim Benzema failed to maximize the penalty prize until Madrid was 0-2 behind towards the end of the match.

Los Blancos' troops could only equalize in the last 10 minutes through Luka Modric's penalty in the 82nd minute and Militao's header in the 90th minute. These two goals then saved Carlo Ancelotti's troops from defeat.

However, Ancelotti did not turn a blind eye to the hard efforts of his players. According to an Italian brewer, in this match, Madrid had attacked all-out at the end of the second half to equalize.

"The reaction of the team was very good, we did not give up. This is a very good sign from the team, that we did not end up losing", continued Ancelotti.

"We shouldn't make the game difficult for ourselves, we have to play more solidly. We conceded two goals when we should have been more aggressive in duels", he said.
