Refusing To Return To Arsenal, Mkhitaryan Has Chosen To Permanent His Status In Rome

JAKARTA - Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Serie A club AS Roma on a permanent basis. He terminated his contract with Arsenal.

Mkhitaryan joined Roma at the start of last season after a disappointing 18 months at Arsenal. At that time, he entered into a swap scheme with Alexis Sanchez who moved to Manchester United.

During his time at Arsenal, the 31-year-old played 39 times and scored 8 goals. Previously at MU, he also played in the same number of games, but scored 5 goals.

Unlike at United where he presented the EFL Cup (2016-17), FA Community Shield (2016) and UEFA Europa League (2016-17) trophies, at Arsenal, the former Borussia Dortmund player did not win a single title.

As for Roma, initially reaching an agreement last month to extend Mkhitaryan's loan term until the end of next season.

"Micki left us following his one-season loan spell in Italy. We have agreed to terminate his contract with us by mutual agreement which saw him join Roma on a permanent move," Arsenal told Antara, Tuesday, September 1.

Mkhitaryan scored nine goals and six assists last season as Roma finished fifth in Serie A. They qualified for the Europa League.

Meanwhile, the new Serie A season will start on September 19.
