JAKARTA - US Secretary of State (Menlu) Marco Rubio has confirmed that the US will not do anything that could potentially undermine the security of its Gulf allies amid a permanent peace deal with Iran.

Speaking in Kuwait on the second day of his visit to the region on Wednesday local time, Rubio stressed that the US would be fully in line with its partner countries in the Gulf region.

"We will not do anything that undermines the security of our allies, our long-standing allies in the region," he said, quoted by AN, Thursday, June 25.

He added that this was the reason why he attended the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Bahrain on Thursday.

According to him, the US will involve the Gulf countries "in conversations about every decision made in connection with these negotiations."

Rubio also reiterated the US President Donald Trump's administration's rejection of Iran's demands to impose tariffs on shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, an issue also opposed by Gulf countries.

He then confirmed that the US and Iranian delegations would continue their talks at the end of the month, most likely also taking place in Switzerland.

Rubio arrived in Kuwait on Wednesday local time and held a meeting with Kuwait's Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabahon.

The meeting came after Rubio attended a flag-raising ceremony at the US Embassy in Kuwait to mark the resumption of operations suspended in March following an attack from Iran.

After meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Rubio wrote on his X account: "Kuwait is an indispensable partner for regional security and stability."
