Despite The Many Obstacles And Suffering Against Venice, Gasperini Salutes Atalanta To Finish The Match Well

JAKARTA - Atalanta's sweet results were successfully achieved when they met Venezia in the round of 16 of the 2021/2022 Italian Cup. A 2-0 win in that match also took them through to the quarter-finals.

Regarding this result, Gian Piero Gasperini, the coach, said he was satisfied with what his team had achieved. Even though there were many obstacles and suffering, he applauded because the team was able to finish this match well.

"We finished well, with a five-man defense usually not playing. It's not easy to beat them (Venezia)," Gasperini was quoted as saying by Bergamo News, Thursday.

"We suffered until the end but games don't always end in goals. We created some dangerous actions and also defended well. Here, this is a good sign," continued the coach.

In the match which took place at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia Stadium on Thursday, January 13, Indonesian Western Time (WIB), Atalanta as the host did show dominance over the visitors.

Gasperini's team showed a fast and pressing game from the start of the match. This tactic also bore fruit because in the 12th minute of the match Atalanta was able to score the first goal through Luis Muriel which made the position 1-0.

After successfully opening the goal, Atalanta did not relax performances. They continued to hold Venice until towards the end of the match the visitors had not been able to break the deadlock at all.

Instead of giving it a chance, Atalanta actually submerged the opponent again through the second goal through Joakim Maehle when the match lasted 88 minutes. The 2-0 score continued to last until the long whistle sounded by the referee.

Furthermore, Gasperini again said that what his team had gone through so far could not be separated from their main goal to be able to arrive at the end of the competition as champions.

But Gasperini also does not deny that there are many challenges and tough things to be faced. One of them is the condition of the squad which has often been incomplete in recent times.

"We are trying. For now, we have gone through a difficult shift, also because (players) have been absent a lot in the last few days. We are in an emergency but we are trying to cover it up," said the coach.
