Gianluigi Buffon: Ronaldo Is The Start of Juventus' Destruction

JAKARTA - Juventus senior goalkeeper who is now defending Parma, Gianluigi Buffon expressed his views regarding Juventus' recent performance, especially in the Champions League competition.

Buffon said it all started when Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Turin. Buffon said the arrival of Ronaldo actually destroyed the character of the team nicknamed the Bianconeri.

"Juventus had the opportunity to win the Champions League in the first year he (Cristiano Ronaldo) arrived, which was the year I was at Paris Saint-Germain and I don't know what happened," Buffon said, as quoted by Football Italia Saturday, December 25.

"When I came back I worked with Ronaldo for two years and we did well together, but I think Juventus lost its DNA as a team."

Buffon feels Juventus has always failed in the Champions League since Ronaldo was there. In fact, the presence of the megastar to Juventus in 2018 was aimed at bringing the club to success in the Champions League.

However, the move failed miserably because they instead failed to defend the Scudetto title in Ronaldo's last season there. The Bianconerri's slick record, which successfully entered the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017 actually changed when Ronaldo arrived.

"We reached the Champions League final in 2017 because we are a team full of experience, but above all, we are a unit and there is a very strong competition for places in the group. We lost that because of Ronaldo," he said.
