Indonesia Is Held To A Draw With Singapore, Shin Tae-yong: This Result Is Not Satisfactory

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team had to settle for ending the first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals with a draw. Facing Singapore as the host, the match ended with a score 1-1.

For this draw, coach Shin Tae-yong admitted he was disappointed. He said the results of the team's hard work this time were not satisfactory.

"Obviously today's result was not satisfactory," said Shin Tae-yong in an online press conference session after the match.

In the meeting at the National Stadium, Singapore on Wednesday, December 22, the national team actually appeared dominant in the early matches. The Garuda squad even managed to shock the opponent's goal net first through the execution of Witan Suleman in the 28th minute and lasted until halftime.

Although they managed to steal the lead in the first half, the situation changed into the second half. After halftime, the national team game actually declined and tended to make a number of mistakes.

The moment was finally read by the opponent and they used it to turn things around. Through Ikhsan Fandi Ahmad's kick in the 70th minute, Singapore was able to equalize 1-1. This score lasted until the game was over.

Shin Tae-yong said that one of the factors that triggered the draw with Singapore was because the players were tired after performing impressively against Malaysia, three days earlier.

"I have guessed, there are times when the players are in a very tired condition," said Shin Tae-yong.

However, the South Korean coach understands that the team is tired in this match. In the future, he will try to improve his stamina so that he can perform even better.

"It's better to be tired now, so we can prepare better for the next match," he explained.

Despite swallowing a draw, the national team still has a chance to win in the second leg of the AFF Cup semifinal which will take place on 25 December.
