JAKARTA - Senior lifter Eko Yuli Irawan hopes that the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) can be implemented properly, not only at the center but also down to cities and districts.

According to Eko, DBON, which has received the legal umbrella of Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021, has a good program to improve national sports achievements, but the central government must be able to ensure that the program can also run in the regions.

"As an athlete, the DBON program is extraordinary, it's just a matter of how (implementation) it goes down, what kind of KONI is, what city/district and sports branches are like, well, it's not in line. If they are in line, it is likely to be successful", Eko said as quoted by Antara, Thursday.

The lifter who won silver in two editions of the Olympics also hopes that DBON can further support facilities for national athletes, including the quality of the training ground, nutrition, physiotherapy, and recovery.

According to Eko, the athlete's job is only to train and compete to win, while preparation for achievement is the role of the government and the parent sports organization.

"As athletes, we just compete and train as best we can. It's just a matter of how to prepare it, where to practice, physiotherapy, recovery, nutrition. We as sports players have been training hard, but we haven't thought about the recovery system yet", said Eko.
