Ajax Vs Sporting: Perfect! The Son Of God Ends Group Phase With 18 Points

JAKARTA - Sebastien Haller scored to help Ajax Amsterdam end the Champions League group stage match with a 100 percent record. After thrashing Sporting Lisbon 4-2 at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Wednesday morning the team nicknamed the Son of God won all the group stage matches and scored a total of 18 points.

Citing Antara, Haller became the second player after Cristiano Ronaldo to always score in all of the six group stage matches of the 2017-18 Champions League season.

He scored from a penalty kick in the eighth minute to take his tally in this year's competition to 10.

Sporting equalized through Nuno Santos' goal in the 22nd minute but Brazilian Antony restored Ajax's lead just before half-time after the visitors' defense made a fatal mistake.

David Neres extended Ajax's lead in the 58th minute and four minutes later Steven Berghuis scored Ajax's fourth goal.

But Sporting scored a consolation in the 78th minute with Bruno Tabata's side-footed shot into the corner.

Ajax topped Group C with a maximum score of 18 points while the Portuguese champions, already confirmed as runners-up, finished second with nine points. They took advantage of their last group game to give second-tier players a chance to experience the atmosphere of European competition.

Matches were played behind closed doors as the Dutch government issued an anti-crowd policy after COVID-19 cases soared in the Netherlands.
