2022 IBL Division Draw Results: Satria Muda And Pelita Jaya Are In Pot One

JAKARTA - The operator of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) on Monday announced the results of the division draw for the teams that will compete in the 2022 season competition.

The defending champions Satria Muda Pertamina Jakarta are in the Red Division with West Bandits Solo, which they eliminated in the semifinals last season.

Meanwhile, Pelita Jaya Bakrie Jakarta, who was runner-up, was placed in the White Division with another semifinalist last season, Dewa United Surabaya.

"The two top teams last season, Satria Muda and Pelita Jaya, were in pot one, followed by two semifinalists in pot two," said IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah as quoted by Antara, Tuesday.

"Then in pot three, there were two teams that qualified for the playoffs last season, DNA Bima Perkasa Jogja and Prawira Bandung. Ten other teams were in pot four," he added.

Bima Perkasa got the draw to the Red Division, while Prawira in the White Division.

Each division also contains two new participating IBL teams, namely the Tangerang Hawks and Bumi Borneo Basketball Pontianak in the Red Division and RANS PIK Basketball and EVOS Thunder Bogor in the White Division.

Later, from each division, the best four teams will be sought to qualify for the IBL 2022 playoff phase, which will increase to eight teams following the increase in the number of league participants.

However, the path of the playoffs is not determined by the division, but rather by single standing with a sequence of one to eight. The first round of the playoffs will then feature the first-placed versus eighth-placed (1 vs 8), 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5.

With this format, it allows cross-division teams to meet even from the first round of the playoffs instead of waiting until the final round like last season.

The playoff phase is planned to be held using a home-away and best-of-three format or looking for two wins.

The regular season is planned to start in mid-January with a total of 176 matches followed by 21 matches in the playoff phase until the final.
