JAKARTA - BYD is preparing to expand its aggression in the global market by introducing a Flash Charging 2.0 network with a capacity of up to 1,500 kW in Europe in the near future. This infrastructure is scheduled to start operating in the next few weeks and will support vehicles that already use the latest generation of Blade batteries.

This step is in line with the company's announcement some time ago regarding the expansion of charging infrastructure abroad. It also coincides with the launch of the Denza Z9 GT in Europe on April 8, 2026, according to IT-home.

The technology carried by BYD allows the charging process to take place very quickly. Vehicles with the second generation Blade battery are claimed to be able to charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in just 5 minutes, and reach 97 percent in 9 minutes based on charging standards in China.

However, there is no certainty whether a similar performance will be available for the European version of the Denza Z9 GT model. Currently, the system is only compatible with the Z9 GT, while most electric cars in Europe still rely on DC charging up to 400 kW.

For comparison, the Ionity network has operated more than 5,000 chargers with a capacity of 350 kW, and has begun to present Alpitronic 600 kW units that can be upgraded to 1,000 kW. Thus, if it is officially operational, BYD's 1,500 kW station has the potential to become the largest public charging facility in the region.

Launching Carnewschina, Tuesday, March 17, the Denza Z9 GT itself comes with a 122 kWh capacity Blade battery and is equipped with three electric motors that produce up to 960 hp or around 716 kW. This model is offered in the choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with a range of up to 800 km based on the WLTP standard.

In the interior, the vehicle is equipped with a Dolby Atmos-certified Devialet audio system, making it one of the cars in Europe with a theater-like audio experience. However, the details of the dimensions and wheelbase have not been revealed.

Although BYD has installed thousands of Flash Charging stations in China, the company has yet to detail its distribution strategy for the network in Europe. In the sedan or wagon segment, the Denza Z9 GT will face competitors such as the Zeekr 001, while the official price for the European market has not yet been announced.

A number of observers consider this BYD move to be a continuation of the global expansion strategy that was introduced on March 5, 2026. The Flash Charging technology that relies on the high-powered Blade Battery architecture is expected to deliver an ultra-fast charging experience, as well as an alternative to other approaches such as Nio's battery exchange system.

With full control over vehicle and charging device compatibility, BYD has the potential to adopt a phased launch strategy while ensuring performance remains in line with claims before expanding to more models.
