Unexpectedly, Huawei's luxury car Maextro S800 beats Porsche sales to BMW in China

JAKARTA - The luxury electric sedan Maextro S800, the result of a collaboration between Huawei and JAC, has stolen the attention of the Chinese premium automotive market. In December 2025, this car recorded sales that even surpassed the combined sales of three European rivals at once, namely the Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, and Maybach S-Class. Based on Haidaxing ECC data, the Maextro S800 became the best-selling luxury sedan in the price segment above 700,000 yuan or Rp1.6 billion. Its sales figure reached 4,376 units in December 2025, jumping 104 percent from the previous month.

This achievement makes the Maextro S800 stand at the top of the Chinese premium sedan standings. As a comparison, the Porsche Panamera, which is in second place, only recorded 1,593 units in the same period.

Not stopping there, Haidaxing ECC data also shows that the sales of Maextro S800 are higher than the total sales of Panamera, BMW 7 Series, and Maybach S-Class if combined. The three models are ranked two to four in order, with a total volume of 4,140 units, still losing to Maextro S800.

Interestingly, other domestic manufacturers have also not been able to approach the dominance of Maextro S800. BYD Yangwang U7 only recorded sales of 333 units, while Nio ET9 sold 185 units in December 2025. Maextro S800's advantage is said to be supported by Huawei's extensive sales network through HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance).

Launching Carnewschina, Tuesday, January 13, Maextro S800 began being sent to Chinese consumers since August 2025 with prices starting at 708,000 yuan. The highest variant even touched 1,018,000 yuan, making it a serious competitor for global premium brands in the high-end sedan segment.

On December 16, 2025, the 10,000th unit of the Maextro S800 was also handed over to Jet Li, a famous actor and martial artist. Citing the latest data, the cumulative delivery of this sedan has now reached 11,453 units.

In terms of dimensions, the Maextro S800 is a large sedan with dimensions of 5480/2000/1536 mm and a wheelbase of 3,370 mm. The interior features a 15.6-inch touchscreen, as well as a 16-inch front passenger monitor.

Not only that, the rear passenger window can be rolled down with just a hand movement. For the powertrain, the pure electric variant (BEV) relies on a 390 kW (523 hp) dual motor configuration with a 95 kWh battery.

The distance traveled is claimed to reach 702 km based on the CLTC standard. Meanwhile, the EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) variant is available with two options, namely a 390 kW dual motor and a 635 kW (852 hp) three-motor.

This version is also equipped with a 1.5-liter 115 kW (154 hp) generator and a 65 kWh battery, with a pure electric range of 365-400 km. The arrival of the Maextro S800 is now a real threat to the dominance of European premium sedans in China.
