Ahead Of The Closing Of The Year, Gaikindo Revised The New Car Sales Target To 780 Thousand Units

JAKARTA - The new car market in Indonesia is again showing a non-light dynamics. In 2025, the auto industry will face a number of challenges that have slowed the sales rate of four-wheeled vehicles.

This situation prompted the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) to reduce sales projections this year. "It has been decided (revision of the new car sales target), projected 2025 to 780 thousand units," said Chairman I Gaikindo Jongkie D Sugiarto, quoted from Gaikindo's official website, Saturday, December 6.

Jongkie did not specify the specific reasons behind the revision, including the consideration of the new numbers chosen. But previously, he had said that Gaikindo would evaluate the annual target after the 2025 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) automotive exhibition at ICE BSD on November 21'30.

"A few days ago (a revision decision was made), when there was a GJAW 2025," said Jongkie.

As of October 2025, retail sales, namely distribution from dealers to consumers, only reached 660,659 units. This realization is still far from the initial target set in the range of 850 thousand to 900 thousand units.

With the weakening sales trend, the achievement of the old target is considered increasingly difficult to realize. Market travel throughout the year is also unstable. Whole sales from brand-holding agents (APM) to dealers slumped sharply in April 2025, only recorded 52,369 units.

Conditions improved slightly in May to 60,847 units, although they fell again in June to 58,338 units. Recovery began to be seen in July with 60,878 units, then rose slightly in August at 61,777 units, and increased again in September to 62,077 units. October became the month with the highest achievement throughout the year, recording 74,019 units.

Seeing these fluctuations, as well as the economic recovery that has not been completely evenly distributed, Gaikindo assesses that targeting adjustments are a realistic step. With the revision to 780 thousand units, the association hopes that this new projection will reflect the factual condition of the national automotive market throughout 2025.
