Hyundai Motor Group and Toray Industries, Inc. agreed to collaborate in the innovation of cutting-edge materials and components to set new standards for future mobility. This was realized in the Joint Development Agreement.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice President (EVP) and Head of Global Strategy Office, Heung-soo Kim, stated that this agreement marks an important milestone in Hyundai's partnership and is the first real result of a strategic collaboration that the company started last year.

"By establishing a clear focus area and combining each other's advantages, we will work closely together at all stages, starting from research and development (R&D), production, to commercialization, in the field of leading composite materials to increase our ability to respond to market needs," he said, in an official statement received, Friday, November 14.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the Advanced Composites Division of Toray Group, Miki Terada, said the Joint Development Agreement marks an important step in strengthening the partnership the company built last year.

"By utilizing Toray's unique material technology and extensive expertise, we will collaborate closely with the Hyundai Motor Group to create essential innovative composite solutions for next-generation mobility. Starting from research and development (R&D) to production and commercialization, we will work in close coordination to increase our competitiveness in the global market," said Miki.

As a follow-up to the strategic cooperation agreement signed in April 2024, the two companies continued to collaborate on developing high-performance composite materials, including carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), to improve safety and performance in the mobility sector.

Since then, the two companies have identified various projects that maximize synergy through close collaboration, as well as formulate concrete joint development plans by taking advantage of their respective advantages.

The newly signed agreement marks significant progress in the collaboration of the two, as well as accelerates the development of advanced materials and components for future mobility, including high-performance vehicles as well as mobility for special purposes such as lunar and robotic rovers.

As part of this collaborative effort, Hyundai Motor Group will develop vehicle designs, feasibility tests, as well as evaluate performance on advanced materials and components through its Materials Research & Engineering Center facility which is responsible for the development and validation of new body materials.
