JAKARTA - The competition for electric cars in the Chinese market is getting tighter. In October 2025, Xiaomi managed to record an important achievement through its flagship electric car, YU7, which overtook Tesla Model Y in total monthly sales.
Based on a CarNewsChina report, Tuesday, November 12, Xiaomi retail sales broke 48,654 units in October 2025. Xiaomi YU7 became the star with sales of 33,662 units last month.
That figure exceeds Tesla Model Y's domestic sales, which data from the ECC Intelligence Bureau only recorded around 26,100 units in October. This achievement marks the first time Xiaomi's electric cars outperformed Model Y in terms of monthly sales volume in China's automotive market.
The ECC noted that Tesla's wholesale delivery in October amounted to around 61,500 units, including about 35,400 exported units. As a result, it left about 26,100 units for China's domestic market in October.
With this size, the ECC reported YU7 wholesale figures in October above Tesla Model Y's domestic delivery. Xiaomi itself previously announced on November 1 that shipments in October continued beyond 40,000 units, but the company did not publish details per model.
Combining Xiaomi's previous statement that YU7 shipments began on July 6 with CPCA numbers for October, calculations show that YU7's cumulative shipments have surpassed 70,000 units to date.
Xiaomi's sales performance puts it among the best-selling new energy vehicle manufacturers in China for October or puts it right behind big players, such as BYD.

According to CPCA data, Xiaomi recorded 48,654 retail sales in October, while BYD reported 436,856 new energy vehicle wholesale sales over the same period.
Even so, Tesla itself still maintains a strong position in the medium electric SUV segment, but the increase in Xiaomi sales is an important indicator of changing consumer trends in China. Analysts assess that now many buyers prefer vehicles with high technology features and competitive prices, two of which are the main powers of Xiaomi SU7.
The model is available in several variants, including a high performance version with a four-wheel drive system and battery range of more than 700 kilometers. On the other hand, the Tesla Model Y is still a global favorite, but domestic competition in China is now increasingly challenging as local brands come with technology that is no less advanced.
