GWM Tank 300 Diesel Sent To Antarctica To Support China's Pole Research Mission

JAKARTA Great Wall Motor (GWM) announced that the diesel version of their formidable SUV, 300 Diesel Tank, will be delivered to Great Wall Station in Antarctica to support China's scientific research mission in the polar region.

This vehicle will be used as a means of logistics transportation and personnel mobility in extreme environments with temperatures reaching below minus 30 degrees Celsius.

Interestingly, the 300 Diesel Tank delivered is a standard production version without major modification, showing the reliability of the vehicle in extreme conditions such as thick snow, ice, to glacial cracks. According to the head of R&D GWM, preliminary testing has been carried out at wind tunnel facilities that simulate snowstorms and extreme temperatures.

In the test, the 300 Diesel Tank managed to pass through the engine start process, defrost, and cabin heating in temperatures up to minus 30 degrees Celsius. Regarding the kitchen runway, this SUV is equipped with a 2.4 liter turbo diesel engine that produces 135 kW of power and a 480 Nm peak torque.

The machine was chosen because it has high efficiency and durability to extreme weather conditions which are the main challenges in Antarctica. The collaboration between the GWM and the China Polar Research Center (CPRC) was carried out through the signing of an official agreement at the GWM technical center in Baoding.

Through this partnership, both parties will jointly research and develop polar expedition vehicles, focusing on testing resilience at low temperatures, off-road capabilities, and the reliability of driving systems in heavy fields. As reported by Carnewschina, Tuesday, October 28.

In addition to being used in Antarctic missions, GWM and CPRC also plan to build a joint research platform for vehicle testing in extreme environments. This plan includes the development of new technologies that can improve vehicle performance and efficiency in very low-temperature weather.
