JAKARTA – The government will remove import incentives for electric cars at the end of this year. This policy requires manufacturers that have previously enjoyed import relaxations to balance their domestic vehicle production with the number of units they have imported.

In response to this policy, Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng expressed no concerns. Xpeng's Vice President of Marketing, Hari Arifianto, stated that the company has been assembling electric cars in Indonesia since mid-year.

"It's not a problem for us. We've been assembling the Xpeng X9 in Indonesia since last June. Previously, we had been importing to meet consumer demand," Hari said in Bogor during a recent test drive of the Xpeng X9.

He added that Xpeng has sold more than 200 units. Because the models sold are assembled domestically, the removal of import incentives will not impact their operations or vehicle prices.

"Local production makes us more flexible and ready to face policy changes," Hari emphasized.

Currently, Xpeng assembles the Xpeng X9 model at its PT Handal production facility in Purwakarta. Meanwhile, Hari revealed that deliveries of the Xpeng G6 model to consumers will begin this coming November.

This move is part of the company's strategy to expand its presence in the national electric vehicle market.

In addition to strengthening local production, Xpeng is also expanding its sales and after-sales service network.

This year, they aim to open six dealerships in Indonesia. Three are currently operational, including one in the Puri area, which is equipped with a body and paint shop. A new dealership is planned to open soon in the Pondok Indah area.

For the domestic market, Xpeng offers the Xpeng X9 in three variants: the Standard Range Pro priced at around IDR 990 million, the Long Range Pro priced at IDR 1.05 billion, and the Long Range Pro+ priced at IDR 1.09 billion (on the road in Jakarta).
