JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is intensifying the national car project (mobnas) and Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza invites Suzuki Indonesia to take part in the project.

"Indonesia wants to own an Indonesian car, I think PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor can participate in supporting the president's program to prepare a full Indonesian car," he said while attending the launch of Suzuki's latest model, namely frontx, in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 28, as reported by ANTARA.

According to him, the Frenx which already contains a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 60 percent is in line with the vision of the Mobnas made in Indonesia. Suzuki is considered to have a qualified capacity to produce various types of vehicles in the country.

"Moreover, I heard that Tronx has approximately 60 percent TKDN, this is a matter of pride. Basically, with TKDN 60 percent, it can be said that this Frenx car or vehicle has actually been produced in Indonesia," Faisol added.

It is known, Suzuki revealed that Frenx has been assembled locally at the Cikarang assembly facility, West Java, and involved around 200 domestic companies. This includes providers of raw materials to a series of other supporting activities.

Various components of vehicles such as engines, body to car seat in Suzuki Ertiga, XL7 and frontx were produced at the Suzuki factory in Cikarang.

Previously, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita revealed the same thing, that the government was working on a plan to build a new mobnas, in collaboration with the manufacturer.

The Minister of Industry said that there are several automotive manufacturers that have expressed their readiness to be involved in this project, one of which is the Polytron electrification vehicle company. However, until now there has been no good news from Polytron.

The Journey of Mobnas

The national auto industry has gone through a long journey in an effort to achieve independence through the National Car (Mobnas) program.

Since the 1970s, Indonesia has been trying to create Mobnas as a symbol of national independence and pride. Projects such as Toyota Kijang, Timor, Bimantara, and Esemka reflect the spirit of nationalism and the desire to reduce dependence on imported products.

MV3 Garuda Limousine alias Maung Pindad is the latest Mobnas produced by PT Pindad (Persero). An SUV made by the nation's children whose 70 percent components are local production.

This car is used as the official vehicle for state administrators in the Red and White Cabinet under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

As an illustration, Malaysia has succeeded in developing Proton as Mobnas since 1985, with strong support from its government through market protection and investment in research and technology development.

Meanwhile, in February, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave his country's Mobnas the Togg T10X electric car to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as a gift as well as a symbol of friendship and close relations between Indonesia and Turkey.
