JAKARTA - Some time ago there was an incident where BYD Seal electric cars emitted smoke after being left for three days in the garage of the house of one of the owners located in West Jakarta (Jakbar), and BYD Indonesia has now finished conducting an investigation.

Based on the results of an internal investigation (BYD Indonesia) it is stated that the problem is thought to have originated from a short circuit in the electrical system triggered by external factors, not a fire that had become a wild narrative.

"We would like to express our concern and sympathy to the owner of the BYD Seal who experienced this incident," said President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia Eagle Zhao, at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, Wednesday, May 21.

BYD Indonesia itself moved quickly with a team visiting the local location after the incident, and immediately conducted an investigation to find the root cause of the problem that caused the electric sedan to emit smoke.

"Based on temporary findings, the source of the short circuit comes from a network that has a short circuit, and is thought to have been caused by external force," he added.

It is said that the short circuit caused a low voltage battery commonly used to start a car, or better known as a battery, to experience overheating, which then triggered a thermal runaway and produced an abnormal sound.

Head of Marketing & PR BYD Indonesia, Luther Pandjaitan, ensured that the incident was not a battery fire, but emitted smoke.

"As a result, smoke was seen coming out of the bottom of the vehicle," said Luther.

Luther further said that because the low-voltage battery experienced excessive heat that triggered the thermal runaway, abnormal sound appeared.

"This also causes smoke and the smell of burning. So, this is the effect of changes in temperature in low voltage batteries, not explosions," he said.
