Zeekr Speaks Up about the 7X Electric SUV that Caught Fire at a Charging Station

JAKARTA - Zeekr provided an official explanation regarding the burning of the 7X electric SUV at a charging station in China. The incident occurred on August 9, 2026 in Ningbo City. There were no injuries in the incident after firefighters managed to control the fire.

Reported by Carnewschina, Wednesday, August 12, Zeekr 7X is known to have caught fire while parked around the charging station area. Based on the circulating video footage, the car was not connected to the charging device when the incident occurred so the cause of the fire could not be determined.

A number of social media users in China also highlighted the condition of the vehicle before it caught fire, including the open front trunk and several plastic panels that had been removed. In the video, the car is seen suddenly catching fire after a sound resembling an explosion is heard.

Not long after, smoke began to billow and a number of explosions were heard. Sparks and flames were then seen coming out from the bottom of the vehicle. However, the entire body of the Zeekr 7X was not burned and firefighters arrived shortly after the incident to put out the fire.

Responding to the incident, Zeekr said that the results of the initial examination showed that the vehicle was involved in a previous serious accident. The company also said that the car had not undergone inspection or repair at Zeekr's official service center.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Zeekr reminds vehicle owners that batteries, high-voltage systems, and body structures must be inspected and evaluated after a car has been in an accident.

Vehicles that do not undergo inspection and repair according to procedures are considered potentially dangerous. The company also advises consumers to be more careful when buying used electric cars.

The history of accidents and vehicle repairs needs to be checked, including ensuring that the battery and high voltage system are still in a safe state. This incident is a concern for Zeekr because previously the company had promoted their vehicles as products that did not experience spontaneous fires without external factors.

A similar statement was last made in May 2024 when Zeekr recorded a cumulative shipment of 240,000 units. After that, in the following two years, the company no longer made similar claims. Even so, Zeekr is still known as one of the brands with a reputation related to aspects of fire resistance.

The Zeekr 7X itself is a global electric SUV that has been marketed in various regions, ranging from Europe, Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East to Southeast Asia. This model also received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP in 2025, with a score of 91 percent for adult passenger protection and 90 percent for child passenger protection.

For the Chinese market, the Zeekr 7X has dimensions of 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, 1,666 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,925 mm. The model is available in rear-wheel drive or RWD with 370 kW or about 496 hp, as well as an all-wheel drive or AWD variant that produces up to 585 kW or about 784 hp.

Meanwhile, the global version has slightly different dimensions, namely a length of 4,787 mm, a width of 1,930 mm and a height of 1,650 mm with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. The entry-level variant uses one electric motor on the rear wheel that produces 310 kW or around 416 hp, combined with a 75 kWh LFP battery with a range of up to 480 km based on the WLTP standard.

Zeekr also provides a long-distance variant that uses an electric motor similar to a 100 kWh capacity ternary NMC battery. This configuration is capable of covering a distance of up to 615 km based on WLTP testing. The highest variant carries a 100 kWh battery and two electric motors with a maximum combined power of 475 kW or around 637 hp.
