Nissan All-Solid State Battery Will Be Present In 2028, This Is The Achievement

JAKARTA - Nissan will strengthen its plans to present more electric vehicles in the future by launching an all-solid state battery (ASSB) by the end of 2028.

Nissan Motor's Vice President of Powertrain and EV Shunichi Inamjima said the launch of the battery was one of the ambitions and would soon work on his latest electric car independently.

"That's our ambition. The electric car will launch at the end of 2028," Inamima said as quoted by InsideEVs, Tuesday, April 8.

That means, the development of the battery pack will be completed between the end of 2028 and the beginning of 2029. It was stated that the plan was postponed from the previous one because the demand for electric vehicles was not as expected at this time.

Not only that, Nissan already has a factory to assemble the latest battery pack. Although it has not yet reached its full production stage, this manufacturer from Japan has gone through a finalization process in its design.

Nissan will utilize lithium-metal anode materials with sulfur electrolytes on the battery's all-solid state. This manufacturer also considers going to use nickel-manganesecobalt (NMC) or sulfur manganese cathode for its newest package.

NMC and sulfur manganese cathode materials allow Nissan not to look for well-known expensive and rare cobalt sources.

Apart from that, the company targets a density of 1,000 watt-hours per liter. That's well above most modern lithium-ion batteries, which reach around 700 watt-hours per liter. The manufacturer headquartered in Yokohama, Japan claims the battery has heat resistance capabilities at 212 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 degrees Celsius.

The ASSB also has the ability to charge up to 65 percent in just 5 minutes, which is a revolution in electric vehicles.

More interestingly, this battery is not only intended for EVs but also for future hybrid vehicles, especially large SUV cars The benefits of weight and stability of ASSBs will make hybrid cars more efficient, cheaper, and more durable.
