JAKARTA China's automotive giant BYD has officially announced its expansion into humanoid robotics. BYD's move to plunge into humanoidal robotics marks a new chapter in the technological competition and implementation of AI in the manufacturing and automotive industries. It is known, Xpeng and Tesla have also recently showcased the sophistication of their humanoid robots.

For this reason, BYD launched a global recruitment campaign for the Integrated Intelligence Research Team.

Launching CarNewsChina, Tuesday, December 17, the campaign targets master and doctoral graduates in 2025 from well-known universities around the world. BYD offers various positions, including Senior Algorithm Engineers, Senior Structure Engineers, and Senior Simulation Engineers, focusing on cutting-edge research in humanoidal and bipedal robotics.

BYD's Integrated Intelligence Research Team utilizes a wide company industrial application scenario to customize robotic systems and improve its capabilities. The team has developed a variety of advanced robotic products, including industrial robots, collaborative, mobile, and humanoids. Focusing on increasing robotic perceptions and decision-making, BYD aims to accelerate the adoption of integrated intelligence in industrial applications.

This step is in line with BYD's broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) with automotive technology. At the celebration of its 30th anniversary last month, which also marked the launch of the 10 millionth energy vehicle (NEV), BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu announced an investment plan of 100 billion yuan (equivalent to Rp220 trillion) for AI-based innovation. This significant investment aims to achieve a comprehensive increase in vehicle intelligence.

BYD's initial investment in Ubtech Robotics has resulted in the application of the Ubtech industrial humanoid robot, Walker S1, in its manufacturing facility. With a height of 1.72 meters and a weight of 76 kilograms, Walker S1 can carry a 15 kilogram load while working alongside unmanned logistics vehicles and automatic systems. This marks the first collaboration between humanoid robots and autonomous logistics vehicles, paving the way for large-scale unmanned operations.

Ubtech, a humanoid robotics company partnering with various automakers including Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, Geely, FAW Hongqi, and Audi FAW has positioned the Walker S series as the most trained humanoid robot at the automaker, with more than 500 pre-orders already secured. Its duties include inspection, quality checks, and label applications.

Outside of automotive, Ubtech partnered with Foxconn and SF Express to expand its robotic app in manufacturing.
