Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has officially introduced the all-new Santa Fe some time ago. This is the first hybrid car introduced by a South Korean manufacturer in the country.
It was also confirmed that the SUV will fill the locally produced Hyundai vehicle line (CKD) at the Cikarang factory, West Java. However, the company said the battery was still imported from outside (CBU).
Head of Parts Department of HMID, Tony Hardiyanto said that the Hyundai brand hybrid line in Indonesia does not rely on local assembled vehicles such as electric vehicles, all-new Kona Electric.
"For the hybrid (batter) we are still importing from Korea. The matter of CKD will be decided," Tony said when met by the media in Cikarang, Wednesday, November 6.
HMID Chief Operating Officer (COO) Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, added that the decision to localize the assembly was determined by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI).
"So regarding the CKD decision determined by HMMI, usually they study first for one year," said Frans.
He also explained that if they were ready to produce hybrid batteries locally, it would be decided soon.
"In a certain volume, whether it matches their capacity, if they feel they can do it," added Frans.
