JAKARTA - South Korean automaker Kia faces a new challenge with the EV9 model recall in Australia. This step was taken following potential problems in the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) software.
Citing the Drive page, Monday, October 28, Kia recalled 602 units of EV9 produced in 2023-2024. This problem is caused by IEB software that does not function properly, potentially affecting braking performance.
The recall notification was submitted to the Australian Department of Infrastructure, stating that the constraints on the IEB could affect braking performance, especially when using the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature.
"This condition requires stronger braking when using the RSPA function," the statement said.

This problem could increase the risk of accidents that could harm passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. This recall only had an impact on Earth and GT-Line variant EV9 models with dual engine configurations, which were produced until May 16, 2024.
In response to the situation, Kia Australia appealed to affected vehicle owners to immediately contact the nearest dealer and schedule a free software update.
Kia EV9's recall in Australia follows a similar move taken in America last October, with the same problem with the braking system.
