JAKARTA - At the end of 2023, BMW reportedly gained access to Tesla's Supercharger charging network in the United States (US) starting in early 2025. However, the manufacturer decided to postpone this plan.

Launching from InsideEVs, Monday, October 7, this was announced by the manufacturer to its dealer network and announced that access to the BMW-certified Supercharger and adapter would only be available by the end of 2025.

However, the German brand also recommends BMW EV users to use charging stations equipped with the CCS1/J1772 connector exclusively until access is opened to the Supercharger.

This service applies to all brands under the BMW Group umbrella, consisting of BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce in the US and Canada.

Responding to the issue, one BMW spokesman said that it is trying to carry out full integration that allows its customers to access charging stations on each of its vehicles. However, it does not further clarify the cause.

We are working on full integration to allow BMW Group customers to access networks through their respective vehicle applications, and work closely with our suppliers to develop approved adaptor solutions, a BMW spokesperson said.

As is well known, the BMW Group has a fairly large line of electric vehicles covering the BMW i4, i5, and i7 sedans, the BMW iX SUV, and the Mini Cooper Electric city car, in addition to upcoming models such as the Mini Aceman EV crossover and much more.

BMW is not the only automotive player to get this access. Other name manufacturers such as General Motors (GM), Honda, Hyundai, Stellantis, to Mercedes-Benz also get this privilege in facilitating users of electric vehicles in North America.
