Latin NCAP Disappointed, Toyota Raize Made In Indonesia Only Wins One Star In Safety Tests

JAKARTA - Recently, Toyota Raize's car received an alarming safety value after passing testing from the Latin New Car Assessment Program (Latin NCAP) with only one star.

It is known that the car being tested was assembled by Indonesia, precisely in Karawang, Central Java owned by Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) which was exported to several regions, one of which was Latin America.

NCAP Secretary General of Latin Alejandro Furas urged manufacturers to change their areas of safety by providing more basic safety devices to convince consumers.

"Latin NCAP urges Toyota to change its approach, improve basic safety equipment on cars, and donate cars in Latin NCAP to show consumers their performance," Furas said on the official NCAP Latin website, Wednesday, September 4.

Then, the Latin NCAP Chairman Stephan Brodziak expressed his disappointment about this result because the Toyota car again received a low assessment in the safety test.

"We know that these brands can achieve better performance in vehicle safety, so we strongly urge companies to reconsider their safety equipment strategies and carry out safety evaluations on their models so that consumers know their true performance," said Brodziak.

Carrying the same base as Daihatsu Rocky, Toyota Raize has two airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as the standard by obtaining 40.54 percent on the Adult Occupant assessment, followed by 71.57 percent on Child Occupant, 58.70 percent for Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users, and 58.14 percent in Safety Assist.

In addition, the agency also tested this small SUV in front, side, whiplash, pedestrian protection, and ESC clashes.

The NCAP Latin assesses that the front of Raize shows an unstable structure and marginal protection on the driver's chest. Then, side clashes show inadequate protection on the chest into the passenger side that increases the risk of injury to passengers.

This car comes without a side head shield that makes it given a zero for the lack of head protections in the front and rear rows. What's even more surprising is that Raize is not equipped with the ADAS system, although other regions get the feature.
