The Electric Vehicle Uses Turbo Name, This Is Porsche's Explanation

JAKARTA - Porsche has made a breakthrough in the electrification sector by launching Taycan as its first electric vehicle (EV) a few years ago. However, the strange thing is that this model also comes with variants and the naming of Turbo.

Of course, this is surprising considering that the sedan is powered by electricity and the naming of 'Turbo' is related to the performance of an internal combustion engine car.

Not only for Taycan, this German brand adopted the naming in the next electric car, the Tigers that were launched some time ago. However, Porsche has a defense on this matter.

Porsche and Panamera spokesman Mayk Wienkotter said the naming referred to high-performance cars rather than describing powered ICE cars.

"This name only gives the public a determination of the position, whether 4S or Turbo is written on the back," Wienkotter said as quoted by Drive, Thursday, August 22.

He also added that Porsche will still use the name 'Turbo' on electric vehicles in the future.

"I don't see we're going to get rid of this nameplate in the near future," added Wienkotter.

Now, Porsche has the three highest variants in the Taycan model using the naming, namely Turbo, Turbo S, and Turbo GT.

The Turbo GT variant is the newest and most powerful type in the Taycan lineup. Porsche claims this car is one of the most powerful ever produced by this German brand.

This car is powered by electric motors up to 815 kW or 1,092 dk and peak torques of 1,340 Nm. Thus, this car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km.00 in just 2.3 seconds with the highest speed of 306 km/hour.

Meanwhile, Porsche also released the latest generation of Tigers and is available for only electric movement for the first time.

Tigers are also presented in the Turbo variant and have an electric motor with a power of up to 639 ps and a torque of 1,130 Nm which can make it accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour in 3.3 seconds with the highest speed reaching 260 km/hour.
