BMW Reopens The Recall Program Involving About 720 Thousand Vehicles In The US, This Is The Cause

JAKARTA - BMW is again holding a recall program in the United States (US) involving 720,796 vehicles due to short circuit problems.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem is centered on the electricity connector which is not properly sealed in the water pump section so that the link has the potential to be exposed to water and a short circuit occurs.

Launching from Reuters, Wednesday, August 21, the recall includes a number of SUV models such as X1 and X5. In addition, luxury sedans such as Series-5 were also affected by the recall.

The safety regulator in Uncle Sam's country said that BMW received about 18 customer complaints. However, the manufacturer has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this.

This German manufacturer urges affected vehicle owners to take their vehicles to dealers to check or replace water pump and plug connectors if needed. If necessary, the components are given protection for free.

This adds to the list of recalls involving BMW cars in the US. Previously, this premium brand announced a recall of 105,588 units of crossovers and sedans some time ago.

The trigger for the recall is due to software in the engine starter which can cause mechanical damage and make the engine unable to turn on.

If the driver repeatedly tries to turn on the engine for a long time, this can cause the motor starter to overheat due to excessive electrical load.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), overheating motors can ignite flammable material around the engine room that increases the risk of a fire.

The recall includes the 2019-2020 X5 model, X7 xDrive40i produced in 2019-2020, Series-7 model 2020-2021, X6, Series-8 Convertible, Coupe, Gran Coupe, and Series-3 production in 2020.
