Toyota Hilux Affected By Recall In The Philippines, This Is The Cause

Toyota announced the recall of one of its models, Hilux GR Sport in the Philippine market. This step was taken after the manufacturer sent an appeal to Department Trade and Industry (DTI) regarding the recall program involving the pickup.

Launching from AutoIndustrya, Thursday, July 4, 3,244 units of vehicles were affected in the country. The trigger for the recall was the manufacturer planning to replace the sports bar in Hilux GR Sport.

It is also mentioned that brackets in sports bars can cause cracks so that the component has the potential to be detached from the pickup.

If the sports bar escapes from the vehicle, this could pose a huge risk to other vehicles on the road and potentially endanger pedestrian safety.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will address the issue by notifying the affected vehicle owners via an official notification letter and will be contacted by a network of manufacturers' authorized dealers to replace sports bars with new units free of charge.

Vehicle owners are advised to immediately schedule a meeting agreement with the official dealer to make repairs when needed. However, because replacement parts are not yet available, the official dealer will release the sports bar to prevent potential problems from happening. After replacement parts are available, the dealer will contact the owner of Hilux GR Sport.

This is the umpteenth recall made by Toyota. Earlier in the US, the manufacturer announced its recall on Grand Highlander and TX in June.

This recall affects about 145,000 Grand Highlander and TX units produced in 2024. The problem arises because the driver's side curtain airbag has the potential not to expand during a collision when the driver's side window is lowered. The airbag is designed to protect the upper body in the event of a collision.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) announced a recall last March involving the Land Cruiser 300 model produced in July 2021 January 2024 and the LX600 Lexus assembled in January 2022 January 2024.

The manufacturer started the recall program on these two models because the technicians will check and reprogram the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which functions to control the automatic transmission performance of ten accelerations.
