Goodyear Indonesia Confirms It Will Launch Electric Tires In July

JAKARTA - The country's automotive industry is now in the electrification transition period. Not only do vehicle makers prepare this, supporting companies such as tires must also compete to create tires suitable for electric vehicles (EVs).

PT Goodyear Indonesia Tbk plans to release electric tires as support for electrification on the aftersales side. However, the launch of this environmentally friendly tire encountered problems.

PT Goodyear Indonesia's Head of Marketing, Arfianti Puspitarini, said that his party had been hampered by the problem of import quotas, so that during the first six months the company had not yet received its goods.

"Yesterday we were hampered by imports of the new quota being released in June, so during the first six months we were unable to unload goods," said Arfianti when met by the media in Gambir, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 25.

However, he ensured that the electric tires had now arrived at Tanjung Priok and would be released next month.

"The goods have arrived at Tanjung Priok, finally only being able to come out this June, including the electric tires. The products will be marketed this July," added Arfianti.

Arfianti explained that this electric tire is an imported product (CBU) from a factory owned by Goodyear in China and will enter segments such as 18-inch tires and above.

"We make sure the tires slide this year. The segment we will enter is Ioniq 5 or Ioniq 6, especially since we are also supplying these tires to Tesla globally," said Arfianti.

However, Goodyear Indonesia has not dared to reveal the price of the product. However, as an illustration, it is certain that the price will be more expensive when compared to conventional tires.

"Because the segment is different and the ring is higher, we have 18 inches and above. So it's likely to be more expensive," concluded Arfianti.
