Impact Of Certification Scandal, Australian Toyota Stops Delivery Of Yaris Cross

JAKARTA - Unlike Indonesia where Yaris Cross made in Indonesia was not also affected by the safety test scandal, Toyota Australia took firm steps by stopping local shipments of Yaris Cross due to certification scandals or violations in its testing process in Japan.

Citing from the Drive page, Wednesday, June 5, Toyota confirmed that shipments of Yaris Cross were temporarily suspended in Australia, as a result Japanese authorities stopped exporting several models.

Australia's Toyota has implemented a temporary suspension of Yaris Cross's shipment to customers, a company spokesman said.

Toyota Australia says it handles vehicle certification very seriously, as well as cooperates with authorities. In addition, Toyota Australia also said there was no problem until now.

We were told that there are no Yaris Cross SUVs currently on sale or operate on Australian roads that have safety or performance problems. Customers can continue to drive their vehicles," the statement added.

Previously, in a Toyota Global release published June 3, Toyota said it had reported the results of its investigation on May 31, following instructions from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism (MLIT) on January 26 this year.

From this Toyota internal investigation, it found irregularities in the hit test method used for 3 production models (Corolla Fielder/Axio and Yaris Cross). Meanwhile, 4 other models that have been stopped production since 2014 (Crown, Isis, Sienta, and RX) were found to have errors in the hit test and other testing methods.

Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda apologized to the public for this problem. He said he would be responsible.

"As the party responsible for the Toyota Group, I would like to apologize to the public and various parties who care about the automotive industry," he said.
