Tesla Again Recalls More Than 125,000 Vehicles, This Is The Cause

JAKARTA - Tesla is again affected by the recall program in the United States (US). The number of electric cars that must be withdrawn from the circulation period reaches 125,227 units.

Reporting from Reuters, Saturday, June 1, the cause of this mass recall was because of the seat belt warning system that could trigger an injury during an accident, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The independent agency explained that the vehicle failed to meet federal safety requirements because the seat belt warning light and the bell sound had the potential to be inactive when the driver was not wearing it.

This recall includes a number of models, consisting of the 2012-2024 Model S, the 2015-2024 Model X, the 3rd Model of 2017-2023, and the 2020-2023 Model Y.

The manufacturer, led by Elon Musk, will release a software update through over-the-air to fix this issue and its implementation is expected to begin in June.

According to NHTSA, this solution will remove dependence on driver seat placement sensors from software and only rely on driver seat belts to activate seat belt reminders signals.

Previously, Tesla had recalled as many as 200,000 units consisting of Model S, Model X, and Model Y in the US due to a software error that could block driver's vision when withdrawing.

The manufacturer from Uncle Sam's country also had to recall 3,878 units of Cybertruck last April due to problems with the accelerator pedal that could be released or stuck.

US car safety regulators also opened an investigation last month to see if the recall of more than 2 million vehicles Tesla announced in December to install new Autopilot protection was sufficient following a series of accidents.
