These Four Companies Establish Cooperation In Vehicle Carbon Neutral Fuel Study

JAKARTA - In order to create an environmentally friendly and decarbonized ecosystem, Toyota Motor Corporation together with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., ENEOIS Corporation, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., are starting a study towards the introduction and deployment of carbon neutral fuel.

The four companies each have a major role in the program. This is also in line with the Japanese country's vision to introduce carbon neutral fuel by 2030.

"In an effort to introduce carbon neutral fuels in Japan by 2030, four companies each have a major role in supply, technology and demand will jointly begin this study," Toyota wrote on its official website, Tuesday, May 28.

The carbon neutral fuel in question includes synthetic fuels (eFuels) developed using hydrogen and CO2 and biofuels made from raw materials such as plants that absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.

Carbon-neutral liquid fuel has an advantage in terms of storage and energy transportation and is suitable as a source of energy that can be transported.

The four companies will discuss and study scenarios by creating a roadmap for the introduction of carbon neutral fuel in the Japanese vehicle market.

The program is also in line with the 'Shaping Change' carried by the Kosan Idemitsu for 2050 by seeking the introduction and initial deployment of synthetic fuel carbon and biofuel while collaborating with various companies inside and outside Japan.

Meanwhile, ENEOS also implements its long-term vision in the face of challenges in achieving a stable supply of energy and materials and realizing a carbon neutral ecosystem. Various initiatives are carried out to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including the use of hydrogen and renewable energy and developing carbon neutral fuel businesses such as synthetic fuels.

Toyota is also on the way to carbon neutrality by not only introducing electric vehicles, but also reducing CO2 emissions from internal combustion engine cars. In the future, the company will develop a system specifically designed for electric vehicles.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries also declared its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 through the 'Mission Net Zero'. The company will work to build an ecosystem of CO2 solutions through hydrogen.
