Back Traditionally, Mercedes-Benz Will Remove EQ Naming On Electric Vehicles

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz intends to remove the naming of EQ in its electric vehicle lineup and return to the traditional model naming structure in the coming years.

This news is also reinforced by manufacturers calling the electric version of G-Class as G580 with EQ Technology, not EQG as previously rumored. Not only present in the electric variant, the G-Class is also available in gas, diesel and AMG models as high performance versions.

The manufacturer realized that one day all of its models will become electric vehicles, so they will return with traditional names such as the gasoline and diesel versions.

"After everything becomes a complete electric vehicle, you won't want to leave or want to defend a name like S-Class," said a company spokesman quoted from Auto Express, Friday, May 17.

However, this luxury manufacturer will not switch to full power in the near future. Currently, they are offering the option of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or millid-hybrid 48V cars in an effort to minimize the use of gasoline and diesel fuel.

"We had the best PHEV based on its reach, and we updated it again," added the spokesman.

This news follows rumors that Mercedes-Benz is discontinuing the development of its newest architecture, MB.EA Large. The report says this decision was taken because it reflects on the poor sales of EQE and EQS models.

The termination of this development is reported to save investment of around 4 billion euros and 6 billion euros (around IDR 69.6 trillion to IDR 104.5 trillion).

The luxury manufacturer originally planned to develop two versions of the MB.EA platform, namely MB.EA Medium for the latest EQC sedan and SUV and MB.EA Large for larger, more premium vehicles.

Previously, the MB.EA Large platform was planned to launch in 2028 and will be used in various models such as the successors to EQE and EQS.
