JAKARTA - At the Periclindo Electric Vehicle (PEV) Show 2024 exhibition, PT BYD Motor Indonesia (BYD) signed a cooperation agreement with PT Suryacipta Swadaya, a developer from the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate.
This collaboration is BYD's first strategic step in developing an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia. Included in this plan is the establishment of research and development centers as well as training facilities with the latest technology that is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
"After going through various assessments, BYD decided that the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate is very suitable to be the basis for the development of the EV BYD industry in Indonesia. This industrial area meets the criteria we need, both broadly, accessibility, environment, and infrastructure. We believe that the facilities to be built here will encourage the growth of the Indonesian automotive industry, accelerate the transition to clean energy, and support the country's economy, especially around this region," said President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, in his remarks at Jiexpo Kemayoran, Tuesday, April 30.
The Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate has been integrated with national strategic infrastructure and is easily accessible through the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) Toll Road at KM 89 which is currently under development. In addition, this area is also close to the Patimban Access Toll Road which is directly connected to Patimban Port, Kertajati International Airport, and Trans Java Toll Road which connects to Jakarta, Bandung, and other cities in West and Central Java.
Subang Smartpolitan, as an integrated urban area for industry and commercial in Indonesia, welcomes this cooperation and supports BYD's efforts to advance sustainable mobility in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region.

Meanwhile, VP of Marketing Sales & Subang Smartpolitan Rent Relations, Abednego Purnomo, welcomed BYD's arrival with enthusiasm. "This collaboration shows that our industrial estate infrastructure is able to support the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem planned by BYD. This is also in line with our vision to 'Build a Better Indonesia'," said Abednego Purnomo.
BYD's investment in the construction of EV production facilities will be located in Phase 2 of Subang Smartpolitan, especially in the northern part of the region. With a comprehensive and integrated EV ecosystem planning, BYD will use more than 108 hectares of land.
This investment will not only create thousands of new jobs and strengthen the local economy, but will also increase technology transfer and expertise in EV manufacturing. This will encourage the growth of the supporting industry in the EV sector and open up new opportunities for local companies to engage in the global supply chain of EVs, thus driving significant economic growth in Indonesia.
After the signing of the agreement, the next process is the handover of land which is planned to be carried out in August 2024. BYD plans to start construction in stages and is expected to start operating in January 2026.
