BYD Dolphin To Lexus LBX Wins Best Rank 3 In The World Urban Car 2024 Category

JAKARTA - This year the World Car Awards will be held again, where finalists from various categories have been announced during the current Geneva International Motor Show.

Many award categories, one of which is the World Urban Car which have been decided by three finalists. Later, the winner of the world's best car in 2024 will be announced at the New York International Auto Show 2024, or has been curated by many judges for eligible vehicles.

As quoted from the worldcarawards.com page, the three cars nominated for the World Urban Car consist of BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX and Volvo EX30. As additional information, all cars participating in this award have met a number of requirements, consisting of a production volume of at least 10,000 units/year, have price tag under luxury cars on the market, and must be sold at least in two main markets, covering China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the US or at least two different continents in the period January 1, 2023 to March 30, 2024.

So what are the three models offered above?

First there is BYD Dolphin, this Chinese brand has a sophisticated outline display, with sharp folding lines and flowing contours, creating a confident and elegant design impression. Using the latest BYD e-Platform 3.0 designed specifically for electric vehicles. The use of e-Platform 3.0 provides benefits to intelligence, efficiency, safety, and aesthetics. The advantage is the use of Blade Battery, which has passed extreme tests and is one of the safest batteries in the world.

Next up is Lexus LBX, a car carrying a concept opposite to a luxury car stereotype. With a compact design, the SUV has a length dimension of 4,190 mm, a width of 1,825 mm, a height of 1,545 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. With an 18-inch rim, the LBX Lexus is available in front wheel drive configurations and all wheels, using Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) exclusively.

In the powertrain section, LBX uses a hybrid system with a 1.5 liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a combined power of 134 dk and a torque of 185 Nm. With a combination of power from engines and electric motors, LBX can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour within 9.2 seconds.

Lastly, the Volvo EX30 is a small electric SUV that stands on the SEA platform developed by Geely Group. This one has a dimensions of 4,233 mm, a width of 1,838 mm and a height of 1,555 mm with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, and is equipped with a portrait-oriented screen in the cabin.

The Volvo EX30 entry-level has an electric motor measuring 268 dk paired with an LFP 69 kWh battery, capable of traveling WLTP distance of 480 km. The double version of the motorcycle can cover a distance of 460 km.
