Daimler Truck And Masdar Establish Green Hydrogen Export Deal To Europe By 2030

JAKARTA - Daimler Truck Holding AG (Daimler Truck), one of the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, along with Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC Masdar, one of the leading clean energy power plants in the UAE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the possibility of exporting liquid green hydrogen from Abu Dhabi (UAE) to Europe by 2030.

The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed in Abu Dhabi by Fawaz Al Muharrami, Director of Clean Energy and Deputy COO at Masdar, and Martin Daum, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Daimler Truck. The two pioneer companies collaborated with complementary roles in a significant effort to reduce CO2 emissions in transportation of goods on the highway.

"Masdar's ambition is to be one of the leading drivers in global green hydrogen development, and we believe that transportation is one of the most strategic markets for green hydrogen," said Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, stated in an official statement, Wednesday, February 7.

He also added that the signing of this agreement has the potential to significantly reduce the emission of CO2 in road transportation in Europe.

The UAE's ambition is to provide support in becoming the leader of the carbon-low hydrogen market by 2031, which is also in line with our vision to become the'smart first mover' in carrying out projects with strategic partners around the world," he added.

On the other hand, Martin Daum, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Daimler Truck, stated that his company aims to lead sustainable transportation. Global green energy supply is very important to reduce the carbonization of commercial vehicles.

"Our initiative with Masdar marks the first step for us to allow the supply of liquid green hydrogen in Europe," he said.

The UAE plans to prepare itself as its leading and reliable low-carbon hydrogen producer and distributor by 2031. As a leading clean energy power plant in the UAE, and one of the newest energy companies with the world's fastest developments, Masdar will be at the forefront of advancing the latest energy development and deployment as well as green hydrogen technology to address global sustainability challenges.

As additional information, Masdar was founded in 2006 and has developed projects in more than 40 countries with a total power generation capacity of more than 20 GWs. Masdar is committed to investing in projects around the world, with a combined value of more than 30 billion US dollars in an ambitious development plan to reach 100GW by 2030.

Daimler Truck is strongly committed to complying with the Paris Climate Agreement by becoming a leader in sustainable transportation. As a manifestation, Daimler Truck plans to turn its entire truck and bus ranks neutral with CO2 emissions into various operations in the global core market (Europe, US, Japan) by 2039.

In reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector, Daimler Truck adopted a dual strategy through the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles and batteries. At an exhibition demonstrating the use of liquid hydrogen in highway transportation, the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck prototype recently completed a 1,047-kilometer journey across Germany with one liquid hydrogen filling in real road conditions.
