JAKARTA - Xpeng, a car manufacturer from China, plans to develop driver assistance software that can be used globally by 2024, after this technology has been successfully implemented in various cities in China.

Xpeng CEO, He Xiaopeng, revealed that the company will launch Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot, also known as XNGP, in China in 2024. This feature is designed to operate in various environments, from city roads, parking lots, to highways.

"The company plans to develop XNGP globally this year and next year, with the development of globally usable highway NGP starting in 2024, and XNGP which can be used globally will be launched starting in 2025," he said, as reported by CNevpost, Thursday, February 1.

He Xiaopeng hopes that Xpeng vehicle owners can enjoy a smart driving experience when using their car abroad, similar to the experience that has existed in China.

This Xpeng feature is similar to Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD), which allows vehicles to operate automatically without driver intervention. Originally only available on the highway, known as the NGP Highway, Xpeng is gradually expanding its coverage to urban areas, also known as the City NGP, covering the first five cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Shanghai, and Beijing.

On January 2, Xpeng announced the expansion of XNGP coverage to 243 cities in China, signaling the company's seriousness in developing this intelligent feature.

"Until now, NGP has covered a distance of 569,000 kilometers, with more than 3.7 million kilometers of actual road verification and more than 150 million kilometers of simulation," he added.

Xpeng has invested heavily in AI technology focused on intelligent drivers, totaling 3.5 billion yuan involving more than 3,000 experts.
