Toyota Makes Mistakes In Certification Of Diesel Machines, Fortuner Assembled Indonesia Affected

JAKARTA - Bad news came from the Toyota camp. Recently, the Japanese automotive manufacturer revealed irregularities related to the diesel car certification.

The notification was conveyed by Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) to its parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota). Before finding this problem, ITCO was in the process of developing diesel engines for vehicles.

Previously, a special investigative committee led by Hiroshi Inoue had been mandated to investigate potential irregularities against regulations related to domestic emission certification that turned out to be incompatible with forklifts and construction vehicles.

The investigation found that irregularities occurred during the horse force output testing for the certification of three diesel engine models for cars assigned by Toyota to TICO. During certification testing, the performance of engine horse power output was measured using ECU with software that was different from those used for mass production, resulting in the need for re-certification.

Ten vehicles worldwide, including six from Japan, are reportedly using this problematic engine. The manufacturer confirmed that the affected engines and vehicles still meet machine performance output standards.

"We apologize profusely to our loyal customers who have provided support so far, who may feel disturbed and anxious about this situation," Toyota wrote on its official website, Tuesday, January 30.

Therefore, Toyota decided to temporarily suspend the delivery of affected machines and delay the delivery of vehicles equipped with these engines.

In dealing with this problem, the company is committed to providing a detailed explanation to local authorities and will immediately take the necessary action, including conducting tests in front of witnesses if needed.

There are three types of machines affected, ranging from 1GD used in the Land Cruiser Prado, HiAce, Hino Dyna, Hilux, to Fortuner models which are produced by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN).

Furthermore, 2GD-type engines were also affected, used on the affected Hilux and Innova models, and the affected F33A were used on the Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX500d cars.
