JAKARTA - Mazda is starting to seriously switch to electrification by launching seven to eight models of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) by 2030 by targeting sales of 25-40 percent electric vehicles from the rest.

In order to smooth the move, the Hiroshima-based company, Japan, announced its partnership with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) on its next electric vehicle.

According to the company's release, Wednesday, January 17, the charging will be compatible with electric vehicles (EVs) from Mazda in North America starting in 2025.

Thus, Mazda will encourage the adoption of NACS to provide charging options and expand the future environmentally friendly mobility ecosystem by providing a sense of security to customers who can access more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers in the region.

However, the manufacturer did not disclose whether the BEV prior to its 2025 output could adopt a Tesla Supercharger with the help of an adapter to connect to NACS like any other brand.

With NACS, customers will have access to more charging options, especially DC fast chargers, thus giving them more power faster to travel long distances.

Thus, Mazda joins a number of manufacturers that will be compatible with the system from 2025 in North America, with Toyota, Lexus, Honda, BMW, Volvo, Subaru, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ford, GM, Rivian, Jaguar, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis, and other well-known brands.
