Tesla Increases Expansion In Shanghai Giga, Want Cheap Electric Car Production?

JAKARTA - Tesla plans to restart the construction of the third phase of the Shanghai Giga factory dedicated to producing new vehicles worth 25,000 US dollars or around Rp380 million.

This news was reported on the Carnewschina page, Friday, December 8, according to a report from the Late Auto Post, which states that the production capacity of the third part of the Shanghai Giga will be dedicated to new vehicles for USD 25,000 (150,000 yuan), and meets the company's targets.

Earlier, in April Tesla announced it would build a new energy storage plant in Shanghai, with an annual output of 40 GHw, and began production in the second quarter of 2024.

At that time, Tesla did not mention any plans for the Giga plant phase 3 and has now been answered for an electric car at affordable prices.

The plan was also echoed in January, according to a Bloomberg report in January, Tesla plans to increase production of the Shanghai plant to 2 million electric vehicles per year, starting phase three in the middle of the year, but the plan has been postponed due to concerns by the Chinese government over Musk's Starlink.

"A significant progress has been achieved," said Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an interview on December 5.

Based on existing information, this new car at a low price will be sent no later than mid-2025. That is, not in the near future.

As is known, the Tesla factory in Shanghai only produces Model 3 and Model Y, and has an annual capacity of 1.1 million units. Meanwhile, based on existing data, the plant has shipped 853,603 vehicles, up 30 percent from the same period last year (January-November).
