JAKARTA - Subaru has announced it is joining the list of automotive manufacturers that will adopt Tesla's charging system, namely the North American Charging Standard (NACS), starting in 2025 in North America.
Launching Carscoops, Wednesday, November 1, the Japanese manufacturer plans to present electric vehicles (EVs) compatible with 15,000 Tesla Supercharger charging stations spread across the US and Canada from 2025.
The system will also support cars produced before 2025 or those that still use the Combined Charging System (CCS), with the availability of adapters that allow these cars to connect with NACS.
Through the adoption of NACS, customers will have access to more charging options, especially DC fast charging, which allows more efficient charging for long-distance travel.
With this move, Tesla has entered into partnerships with several manufacturers in North America to facilitate access to this system. Prior to Subaru, a number of manufacturers such as Toyota, Lexus, Honda, BMW, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ford, GM, Rivian, Jaguar, Fisker, Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis have teamed up with Tesla.
Subaru's decision is also in line with the company's strategy for dealing with electrification. Subaru has set a target that half of its total worldwide sales will come from the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment, with North America as the main market.
In addition, they plan to launch three new electric car models by the end of 2026, followed by four additional models by the end of 2028.
